Matthew Drasnin
Hailed as “the greatest living composer in the family” (Lori Drasnin, mother), the music of Matthew Drasnin (b. 2005) uniquely blends his eccentric style with captivating narratives. His compositions traverse a variety of topics and mediums, ultimately striving to create an audial landscape accessible to all. Drasnin finds inspiration in untold stories— both his own and others’— and sonically brings them to life through vivid harmonic and rhythmic symbolism. Through exposure in orchestral, wind band, marching arts, jazz, percussive, and theatre settings, Drasnin is continuously finding ways to perfect his compositional craft. Drasnin has been recognized as a finalist for The American Prize and his works have been performed by various ensembles including the Diverge Trio and PANdemonium4. Drasnin’s music has been featured at the OMEA Professional Development Conference (2022/2023, Columbus, OH), Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (Bloomington, IN), Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music (Nashville, TN), and in his native Sycamore community (Cincinnati, OH).
