Blaze ultimately attempts to capture the intensity of fire itself. Rooted in a sporadic 8th-note baseline, the work falls forward with every measure. Duple and triple meters become intwined as the clarinet and piano pass off the melody through tonal and rhythmic adaptations. The work never slows and consistently remains tense, much like an undying flame.
